In a snow covered corn field, late in 2008, Shooting the X began to take shape. Hunkered down in a homemade snow blind, two hunters sat frustrated, chatting about the lack of priority that big box stores give to late season hunters, especially snow geese hunters. Having been unable to find shells or snow blinds at any of the stores, the hunters concluded that the market was lacking a true waterfowl outfitter and joked that ordinary hunters could stock a store better than any of the major chains and they would certainly be much more knowledgeable than many of the store clerks that the chains employ. As the hunters chatted further, they realized that they were on to something and began to lay the groundwork for a company that would supply hunters with a true hunting store dedicated to providing excellent customer service, timely shipments, and affordable shipping rates as well as reasonable owners who value the customer so much, that they offer their products at a fair price. In May of 2009, the hunters dream became a reality and Shooting the X was founded "By Hunters for Hunters".
